“Why don’t they f***ing retire?”

Manchester United fan Tyson Fury delivered a scathing assessment of his team’s capitulation at Brighton on Saturday, suggesting the players should all retire after a disastrous season.

Moises Caceido opened the scoring after 15 minutes, before an eleven-minute period in the second half saw Graham Potter’s side score three goals to seal a 4-0 victory.

Before kick-off, Brighton had not won a game at home in 2022. Their goals against United account for 25 per cent of their total goals from 18 home games in 2021-22.

The result confirmed that United will miss out on Champions League football next season. They will also finish the campaign with their lowest points tally of the Premier League era. A win in their final outing against Crystal Palace would see them reach 61 points – three behind the 64 they reached in the David Moyes season of 2013/14.

Fury on United’s hammering at Brighton

Two weeks after defeating Dillian Whyte at Wembley, Fury insists he is now retired from heavyweight boxing. Watching United from his home, he suggested the club’s players also bring an end to their careers after a wretched season.

Posting to his Instagram Story, Fury said: “I tell you what, never mind the Gypsy King retiring. What you saying, United? Why don’t they f***ing retire?”

Fury’s blunt assessment of the team is shared by many of his fellow supporters.

United squad set for major overhaul this summer

The arrival of Erik ten Hag from Ajax is expected to see the club embark on a significant overhaul of their existing squad.

Several of the current first team are expected to leave on, with Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata expected to join new clubs in the summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who rejoined the club at the start of the season, also appeared to bid the Old Trafford crowd farewell following last week’s final home game of the season.
