‘When you talk before a final, you have to win it’

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry fired a brutal shot at Mohamed Salah after Liverpool suffered defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men lost 1-0 in Paris courtesy of Vinicius Junior’s second-half strike, with Madrid securing their 14th European crown at the Stade de France.

It was the second time that the Reds have been beaten by Los Blancos in the past few years. Madrid overcame the Merseyside outfit in Kiev back in 2018 – with Gareth Bale inspiring the LaLiga side to victory with two stunning second-half goals.

Ahead of the match on Saturday, Liverpool attacker Salah spoke about his desire to get ‘revenge’ on Madrid after the Egyptian was forced off through injury four years ago following a heavy challenge by then Real captain Sergio Ramos.

Henry claims you ‘don’t talk before a final’

However, the 29-year-old’s revenge plan didn’t materialise, and Henry has criticised Salah for his pre-match comments about Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The Frenchman said: “We have said it so many times, it’s about putting the ball into the back of the net. They [Real Madrid] have one on target and they score.

“Liverpool had a lot. But they faced Thibaut Courtois. Remember what I said in the semi-final, people don’t give him the credit he deserves. He’s one of the best keepers in the world and better than Ederson. And he’s shown it tonight.

“I always say something, don’t talk before a final. Beat Real Madrid, then talk and say, ‘it was revenge and all of that’. When you talk before a final, you have to win it.”

Thibaut in top form

Despite dominating for large periods of the game in the French capital, the Premier League side weren’t able to find a way past the inspired Thibaut Courtois in the Madrid goal.
