They have joined hundreds in suing Travis Scott and festival organisers
A woman who says her unborn baby died as a result of injuries she sustained during the Astroworld Festival tragedy is suing Travis Scott.
Shanazia Williamson is suing the rapper and the festival organisers for the wrongful death of her unborn baby.
Her and husband Jarawd Owens of Dayton Ohio say they were expecting a child when they attended the Houston festival last November, but that they lost the fetus due to injuries Williamson sustained at the event.
A crowd-crush during Scott’s performance at the festival resulted in 10 people losing their lives and thousands more being injured.
In December, Williamson and Owens filed a suit against Scott, festival promoters Live Nation and ScoreMore, the security companies Valle Services SMG and ASM Global, and the Harris County Sports and Convention corporation, Rolling Stone reports.
The suit claims: “While in attendance at the festival, Shanazia was trampled and crushed resulting in horrific injuries and ultimately the death of her and Jarawd’s unborn child.
“In addition, Shanazia sustained injuries to her shoulder, back, leg, chest, stomach and other parts of her body.”
It states that the defendants’ “failure to plan, design, manage, operate, staff, and supervise the event was a direct and proximate cause of Shanazia’s injuries and death of her and Jarawd’s unborn child.”
Hundreds of lawsuits amounting to billions of dollars have been launched against Scott, organisers, and Drake, who performed alongside Scott onstage.
On Monday, a document filed in Harris County, Texas, revealed that over 700 attendees who are suing over the festival suffered injuries that needed ‘extensive’ medical treatment. More than 4,900 said they suffered some kind of injury at the festival.
Live Nation and the primary security company at the festival, Contemporary Services Corporation, have denied all allegations against them.
Scott has denied any responsibility for tragedy.
