Pep Guardiola jokingly apologised to a Manchester United-supporting journalist for how difficult it must be to follow the Red Devils.
City thrashed Newcastle United 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, moving three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
Despite the emphatic victory, Guardiola complained about the whole nation ‘supporting Liverpool’ during his round of post-match interviews.
City boss apologises to Man Utd supporter
The Spaniard even light-heartedly suggested that one of the journalists in his press conference supported Jurgen Klopp’s side, before he was quickly corrected by the reporter.
Guardiola was asked if he was ‘ecstatic’ with City’s performance against the Magpies, before the former Barcelona boss replied with a smile on his face: “Did you have doubts? Yes, you are a Liverpool fan. Come on.”
However, the 51-year-old was then informed that the journalist actually supported Liverpool’s great rivals United – which led to a number of laughs inside the room.
The City boss was quick to respond with a witty comment, replying: “I’m sorry, James.”

The Red Devils have endured a difficult season and were officially ruled out of the Champions League race at the weekend after suffering a 4-0 battering at the hands of Brighton.
Incoming manager Erik ten Hag is expected to lose a number of first-team stars when their respective contracts expire at the end of the current season.
Guardiola claims ‘everyone in the county supports Liverpool’
The Spaniard claimed that ‘everyone in this country’ supports the Reds after his side thrashed Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Guardiola said: “Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone, so of course because Liverpool has an incredible history in Europe competitions, not in Premier League because [they have] won one in thirty years but that’s not a problem at all.
“Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone… Our destiny is in our hands, this is important.”

City will clinch the Premier League trophy if they win their remaining three matches, starting at Wolves on Wednesday evening – it would be the club’s fourth title in five years.
However, City are set to be without defenders Ruben Dias, John Stones and Kyle Walker for the remainder of the season after Guardiola confirmed they were all out injured.
