‘I just want the fans to know that, at the training ground, we’re doing our best’
Nemanja Matic has sent a message to Manchester United fans insisting that the players are “doing our best” as he prepares to leave the club in the summer.
The 33-year-old will depart Old Trafford at the end of the season when his contract expires, with the Serbian confirming that he would not be extending his deal.
United have endured a difficult campaign this season, registering their worst ever Premier League points tally and missing out on Champions League qualification – with Europa League qualification also in danger.
Matic insists players are ‘doing their best’
Ahead of the Red Devils’ final game of the season at Crystal Palace on Sunday, Matic – who has made 189 appearances for United – suggested that the players have been ‘doing their best’ on the training ground.
“I know that we have had a couple of difficult seasons but I just want the fans to know that, at the training ground, we’re doing our best, and United will come back, for sure,” he said.
“It’s going to take some time but United will be back. Keep supporting the team. Stay together.”

He added: “I think the fans recognise what I’m doing on the pitch. Also, off the pitch, I try to be an example.
“I tried to be a Manchester United player not only on the pitch but also outside the pitch. I know what this badge means to our supporters, so you need to be an example not only on the pitch.”
Red Devils getting set for player exodus
Matic is one of several United players with contracts expiring at the end of the season. Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani all expected to leave the club.
The Red Devils currently sit sixth in the Premier League table heading into Sunday’s final game. Should Ralf Rangnick’s side fail to beat Crystal Palace and West Ham win at Brighton, United will drop to seventh and play Europa Conference League football next season.
