United have no plans to terminate his contract

Manchester United have denied reports that they could terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract.

Ronaldo’s future is hot conversation and in the aftermath of their 4-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday, speculation that the club may part ways with the 37-year-old surfaced.

Sky Sports initially claimed that the club are concerned by Ronaldo’s attitude and would consider ending his spell at Old Trafford early if there were no signs of improvement.

The forward has been looking for a move away after the Red Devils failed to quality for the Champions League last season. After returning to pre-season training late, the Portugal international started on the bench for their first game of the season – a 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion – before starting Saturday’s game in west London.

Despite his desire to leave the club, interest in Ronaldo has been sparse. Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all distanced themselves from a potential transfer. Atletico Madrid also backed away from a deal.

United’s poor start means they find themselves bottom of the Premier League after two games and both the players and owners facing a serious inquest.

Pundits and ex-Man United players all around  slammed the performance in west London on Saturday. Gary Neville said the game he saw was like “watching a men’s team against Under 9s” and that it is a “real achievement to spend £1bn and still be this bad.”

Whether Ronaldo will still be at the club or not come the end of the transfer window remains to be seen.
