Bad news for those hoping some courtroom romance was going on
Johnny Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, is reportedly dating a British guy, pouring cold water on rumours that she may have been dating the Pirates of the Caribbean star.
Throughout the much-publicised trial between Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, Vasquez has caught the attention of many for her no-nonsense attitude, but also her seemingly close relationship with her client.
There has been much speculation about whether the two may have a relationship stretching well beyond the Virginia courtroom.
But when Vasquez was questioned about these rumours by reporters on Wednesday, she remained tight-lipped, responding only with a “sorry” and a laugh.
It now seems that any fans hoping for a courtroom romance between Depp and Vasquez are going to be disappointed though.
TMZ reports that the University of Southern California graduate has been dating a British guy. Sources told the website that he works in real estate and the pair have been going out for several months.
Apparently Vasquez doesn’t feel like Depp treats her differently to any of the other lawyers on his team, and they are all simply trying to stay strong together as the bitter and protracted trial approaches its endgame.
Although all of Depp’s legal team are reported to have developed both a professional relationship and a friendship with the actor, it seems like this is as far as it goes, and that romance is not in the air.
Depp is currently suing his former wife Heard for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in 2018 in which she discussed the subject of domestic abuse.
Depp and his lawyers argue that the Washington Post piece falsely implies that Heard was physically and sexually abused by Depp while they were married from 2015 to 2017. He is seeking $50m in damages.
Heard is in turn suing her former husband, accusing him of orchestrating a “smear campaign” against her and labelling his lawsuit as a continuation of “abuse and harassment.”
She has asked for immunity from Depp’s complaint, and $100m in damages.
The court is now in its fifth week of hearing the case with closing arguments set to take place on May 27. It will then be up to the jury to decide the outcome.
